====== About the project ====== //As of 1 October 2026.// ===== Why this site exists ===== Conflicts in and through the cyber and information sphere are increasingly carried out not only by force but also by deception, manipulation and the exercise of unregulated power. At the same time, a growing body of law applies to this sphere: the UN Charter and customary international law, international humanitarian law, human rights treaties, international criminal law, regional legislation, court decisions and a range of non-binding norms. This body of law is scattered across institutions, languages and databases. LawyersForPeace.Online brings the parts of this law that bear on **peace and conflict** together on one map. It is guided by the idea of //peace through law//, associated in particular with Hans Kelsen: that conflicts should be settled by legal procedures rather than by force. ===== What the site is ===== * A **curated map**: short, neutral entries on treaties, UN instruments, regional acts, court decisions, national examples, non-binding instruments and regulatory gaps, each linked to the authoritative text. * A set of **topic introductions**, a [[:timeline|timeline]] and a [[:glossary|glossary]] to help readers find their way. * A **change log** recording new entries and substantive updates. * A **discussion forum** – the [[:roundtable|Peace through Law Online – Roundtable]] – in which lawyers discuss current developments recorded on this site. ===== What the site is not ===== The site does not take positions, make recommendations or campaign. Contested questions are described and attributed to the States, bodies or authors who hold the respective views. The site is not a substitute for the official texts and does not provide legal advice. ===== Relation to the UN Sustainable Development Goals ===== The project is intended as a contribution to Sustainable Development Goal 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions), in particular target 16.3 (promote the rule of law at the national and international levels) and target 16.10 (ensure public access to information and protect fundamental freedoms). ===== Other collections ===== The site does not replicate existing databases; it links to them. See in particular the [[https://cyberlaw.ccdcoe.org/|International Cyber Law: Interactive Toolkit]], the [[https://cyberpolicyportal.org/|UNIDIR Cyber Policy Portal]], the [[https://treaties.un.org/|United Nations Treaty Collection]] and [[https://eur-lex.europa.eu/|EUR-Lex]]. ===== Editor ===== See [[about:publisher|publisher and contact]].
